On January 28, 2026 Florida became one of the first states to opt into the federal scholarship tax credit created in the 2025 federal reconciliation law. Beginning January 1, 2027, individual taxpayers can redirect up to $1,700 of federal tax to approved scholarship-granting organizations and receive a dollar-for-dollar credit.
Step Up For Students announced it will administer Florida's program through a new affiliate, the Step Up, Step Further Scholarship Fund. Eligible students are those in households at or below 300% of area median income — a threshold that covers most Miami-Dade families.
For families at schools where tuition exceeds the $8,745 state award, the federal scholarship is a second layer. We will publish the application process and award sizes as soon as they are released.
